Chairman, Department of Medicine

NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) is seeking an exemplary leader to serve as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine.  NorthShore is a $1.5B, four-hospital, fully integrated healthcare system located on Lake Michigan’s North Shore.  A recognized national leader in healthcare technology and leading edge clinical care the system has generated consistent growth in its clinical, educational and research missions.   NorthShore has a professional staff of more than 2,000 physicians including NorthShore Medical Group with more than 670 employed physicians across all specialties.  The Department of Medicine is the largest department with 15 divisions, 818 medical staff members of which 293 are employed faculty physicians.  The Department is noted for its dynamic teaching programs with over 80 residents and fellows, and $22M in NIH, foundation and industry research funding.

Successful candidates for the Chair of Medicine must be respected academicians with excellent clinical, teaching and research skills.  Candidates must have demonstrated leadership abilities, having served as a Division Chief or in other key leadership position.  Key responsibilities of the Chair include: recruitment of top faculty leaders, continued growth of robust clinical services and translational and clinical research, establishment of evidence-based practices and clinical quality outcomes, and effective leadership to meet the changes from health care reform.

Candidates should be at the Associate or full Professor rank and be eligible for academic appointment at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine.  A medical degree from an accredited medical school and Board certification in appropriate specialty area is required.
